A Small Apology

The Hopeful Tree

23 March 2026

Sometimes love is not in what we say…

but in the quiet ways we try to make things right. - The Hopeful Tree

Sometimes love doesn’t come in big words.

Yesterday, my daughter was a little grouchy with me. She spoke to me rather harshly. It hurt. Not anger. Just sadness.

So I told her gently:

“Daddy loves you. But you cannot talk to Daddy that way.”

Later that night, in the goodnight prayer I record for her every evening, I mentioned it again. Not to scold her. Just to tell her the truth.

“Daddy felt sad.”

Today, when I picked her up to bring her to see my mum, she handed me something she made.

A small folded paper shirt.

She told me not to open it until I got into the car. I could see it. That quiet shyness. That little hesitation.

When I finally opened it, there was a small apology inside.

No big speech. No long explanation.

Just a child trying to make things right.

And in that moment, my heart melted.

It reminded me of something important.

Raising a child is not about being perfect, winning arguments, or always being right.

Sometimes it is simply about loving them, telling them the truth gently, and giving them space to grow.

Children don’t always say sorry with words.

Sometimes they say it with drawings, little crafts, and quiet gestures.

And sometimes the biggest miracles in life come in the smallest forms.

Like a folded piece of paper from a child’s heart.

✝️ SCRIPTURE

“Love is patient, love is kind… it keeps no record of wrongs.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4–5

📖 Scripture Reflection

Love doesn’t demand perfection. It creates space for growth. When we respond with gentleness instead of anger, we don’t just correct behavior. We shape hearts.
