Building Income Online as a Divorced Dad

Trying to create time, freedom, and something better — one step at a time.

The Hopeful Tree

INTRODUCTION

I don’t live with my daughter — she lives with her mum. I see her when I can, but those moments always feel a little too short.

That’s part of why I started this journey. I want more than just scheduled visits. I want the kind of time where I’m there for everyday things — the small moments that matter.

So while I drive for Grab now, I’m carving out space between rides to build something else. I’m starting small with digital income streams — not just to earn, but to gain flexibility, presence, and peace of mind.

DAILY LIFE & THE REALITY

Driving for Grab gives me income. It pays the car rental, covers food — real stuff that matters.

But it also demands hours on the road. Long shifts, traffic, fatigue, and less time left over for my daughter, for rest, for thinking.

It’s messy. But I try to see it as the foundation. It’s what’s keeping me afloat while I plant seeds for something different.

“We’re all just planting seeds. I just want to see how far this one can grow.”

WHY I BUILT THE HOPEFUL TREE

This site isn’t just a blog or a project. It’s a logbook — a place where I track the tools I try, the mistakes I make, and the small wins I collect.

I’m not trying to sell something flashy. I’m not chasing followers or virality. I’m documenting a slow, honest path — building while living, learning while doing.

THE BALANCE I’M TRYING TO STRIKE

I’m grateful for what I have now — the driving work, the opportunities, the space to think. But I also believe small systems built with intention can give me more of what I really want:

  • Time
  • Choice
  • Being present for my daughter
  • Something that lasts longer than my driving shifts

I don’t expect this to be perfect. I just want it to be real.

CONCLUSION

This life I’m building isn’t glamorous. It’s not fast. But it’s honest.

If you’re doing something similar — juggling work, family, experimenting with online income — you’re not alone.

We all plant seeds. We water them. We see what grows.
